North Florida with Columbia County at the center and Lake City as the County seat has some of the greatest natural freshwater springs and rivers as it's natural resources. Most notable is the Suwanee River which has it's headwaters in the Okefenokee Swamp in Southern Georgia and flows south to the Gulf of Mexico at gulf-side town of Suwannee. The Suwannee River as it makes its way through north Florida forms the border of north, west and southwest Suwannee County and is fed by 55 springs making it the one of the highest carriers of spring water in the world.
To add to this the Santa Fe which forms the southern border of Columbia County where it butts to Alachua County and Gilchrist County is a Suwannee River tributary just south of Branford FL. The Santa Fe River is blessed with some of the most amazing Springs in the world including the Ichetucknee Springs which forms it's own pristine, crystal clear river offering exquisite kayaking, snorkeling and tubing through beautiful woodlands. Additionally the family owned and operated collection of springs know as Ginnie Springs is a favorite of scuba divers, cave divers and all who seek to cool off on a hot Florida day. Ginnie Springs is also popular with those looking for a weekend camping experience and loved by University of Florida (UF) college students.
Last but perhaps not least is the Blue Springs which recently became a state park. Approximately just a mile up the Santa Fe from Ginnie Springs it is great for family cookouts, swimming, snorkeling and is made up of 4 different spring with a short crystal clear river run to the Santa Fe. Our area springs have a constant out put year-round at 72 degrees. The springs I mention here are all crystal clear. This page lists the area riverfront homes for sale located on the Suwannee River, Santa Fe river and maybe even a home or two on the very limited Ichetucknee River.
